ARCHAEOLOGY

In the valley of Cixerri suddenly appears the inaccesible rock of the Acquafredda medieval fortess, built in the 13th Century by the count Ugolino Della Gherardesca, quoted in the 'Divina Commedia' of Dante Alighieri. The legend tells that the count ate the flesh of his sons during his prisony in Pisa, where he died in 1289. The quiet of the site is broken only by the voices of its immortal keepers, crows and birds of prey, and by the rustle of the wind through the trees.
